Artificial Intelligence or Alien daemons at work?
Matt, down on his luck and almost checked out, stumbles upon a strange artifact while shopping for broken down machines he can turn to profit. Drawn into an immediate struggle for agency, he wins out the grand prize of an old, beaten, and worn Coffee Machine that he believes will change his life.
And it does.
First descending into madness, then ecstasy, Matt's life does change...though not in the way he thought it would. What comes next are mental and psychological games as he first struggles to establish contact with the alien entity across the dimensional artifact, then gain its recognition, and finally interest. Over years, Matt slowly transforms both his life and that of humanity as a whole as he gains wisdom and knowledge from his alien counterpart in an inter-dimensional exchange of wit and ideas.
Yet, these gains he makes also comes with downsides. By taking and using knowledge he is not familiar with, knowledge he does not truly own or master, Matt makes mistakes. Both big and small, these changes also change him, transforming him from a young man seeking to change the world to one as dispassionate and aloof as his alien partner.
In the end, the question that both Matt and humanity must answer it whether the cost of technological leap and knowledge are worth the pains that come with ignorance.
